Bone Densitometry

Bone scans measure the amount of bone in a particular site of the body—usually the lower part of the spine, the hip, the forearm or the heels. They are sometimes referred to as DEXA scans because of the technique used to obtain your bone mineral density. Doctors use the scans to help them assess the likelihood of future bone fractures and whether any treatment is needed.

Jackson Imaging Center uses the "gold standard" in bone densitometry equipment, the Hologic-Discovery QDR Series. Discovery combines the proven clinical value of bone mineral density (BMD) measurement with the vertebral fracture assessment. Hologic pioneered the integration of BMD measurement with instant vertebral assessment (IVA), allowing point-of-care assessment of the two most definitive factors associated with osteoporotic fracture risk: low bone mineral density and the presence of vertebral fracture.

TECHNOLOGY FEATURES

► OnePass technology—single sweep scanning enables superior image quality and unparalleled precision test after test, year after year.

► Vertebral fracture assessment—this test is recognized as the standard in fracture risk assessment and is now even better with our high-definition instant vertebral assessment.

►CADfx—this computer-aided fracture assessment provides physicians with tools to automatically recognize fractures.
